Black salt (Hindi: काला नमक, kala namak), is a rock salt commonly used in South Asia as a condiment.

It is also called black Himalayan salt, kala namak, sulemani namak, bit lobon, kala noon, pada loon or even beer noon (बिरे नुन) in Nepali. It is mainly found in the Nepalese Himalayas.

Initially, the raw material used to produce black salt is harvested in rock salt mines in Bangladesh, India, Nepal or in some Himalayan regions with salt expanses in Pakistan, or in salt lakes in the north of India, as in the salt lake of Sambhar or Didwana and in the district of Mustang in Nepal.

Black salt is considered a “cooling” spice in Ayurveda and is used as a digestion aid.

But also in the creation of toothpastes by combining it with other minerals and other plant ingredients.
