COOPAAFA: The Women Cultivating Haiti’s Future

COOPAAFA : The Women Cultivating Haïti's Future

The radiant faces of the cooperative’s members, united by a shared vision.

A Cooperative Serving the Land and Women

The COOPAAFA (Agro-Artisanal Cooperative of Women in Action) was born in February 2013 in Jacmel, in the South-East of Haiti, through the vision of agronomist Marie-Geoffrin B. Saint-Louis, a passionate advocate for sustainable development.

With more than 30 years of experience in agriculture, food security, and rural development, she founded this cooperative to provide women and rural communities with a tool for economic and social empowerment.

Today, COOPAAFA stands as an inspiring model of solidarity-based and sustainable economy in Haiti.

Who is Marie-Geoffrin Saint-Louis?

A visionary agronomist, she embodies the alliance between science, tradition, and solidarity:

  • Agronomist with over 30 years of career experience in both public and private sectors, including the Ministry of Agriculture.

  • Former president of COOPAAFA for five years.

  • Advocate for the empowerment of rural women and the preservation of traditional know-how.

  • Promoter of environmentally friendly organic farming practices.

The Missions and Activities of COOPAAFA

  • 73 members, 80% of whom are women: academics, producers, and suppliers of raw materials.

  • Rare and healthy agricultural products: moringa, turmeric, annatto, natural honey, castor oil, and more.

  • Promotion of Haitian handmade crafts.

  • Trainings: food processing, financial management, social marketing, communication, social and solidarity economy.

  • Commitment to biodiversity protection and promotion of healthy, local food.

Each product is an ode to the richness of Haitian terroirs, the passion of its producers, and the refinement of artisanal know-how.

Challenges & Ambitions

Looking to the future, COOPAAFA aims to:

  • Reach 200 members to expand its impact.

  • Develop new sectors: essential oils, permaculture, eco-friendly packaging.

  • Extend its presence to other regions of Haiti.

  • Participate in agro-artisanal fairs and competitions, such as Kombit pou Chanjman, to strengthen visibility.

A Poetic Alliance with HECOSFAIR

Where French excellence meets the treasures of Haiti.

It is within this shared vision that the partnership with HECOSFAIR was formed, a French brand of high-end fine grocery – “The right taste for all, natural elegance.”

Through this collaboration:

  • COOPAAFA products (turmeric, moringa, rare dried fruits, artisanal creations) are showcased in France and internationally.

  • Haitian women producers benefit from fair remuneration and new visibility.

  • Consumers discover exceptional products, at the crossroads of tradition and refinement.

A Shared Vision: Excellence, Sustainability & Solidarity

  • COOPAAFA: Giving voice and autonomy to rural women, transforming Haiti’s natural wealth into sustainable economic opportunities.

  • HECOSFAIR: Elevating these products in a high-end gastronomic universe, while staying true to an ethical and responsible commitment.

✨ Together, they prove that excellence and sustainability can uplift one another.

A Human and Inspiring Alliance

Through the smiles, gestures, and creations of the women of Jacmel, the poetry of Haiti is revealed. HECOSFAIR thus becomes more than a distributor: an ambassador of talent, a transmitter of cultures and dreams.

This alliance embodies an elegant, fair, and poetic economy, where each product tells a story, where each flavor reflects an identity, and where each act of solidarity paves the way toward a more harmonious future.
